Regenerative Site Assessment & Design Service
Our Popular Once-off Site Visit
We do a site survey that unearths a range of potentials and challenges on the site regarding internal and surrounding dynamics that can be used to your advantage. We offer permaculture design suggestions and provide a basic report to set you on your way towards developing self-reliance in water, soil health, food, security and other elements needed to support a high quality of life.
Most of our site visits normally require a few hours, it is only larger and more complex sites that require, at the most, a full day.
Here’s what you can expect from our Once-off Site Visit Service
Day assessment
We will spend a few hours assessing the site for potential problematic situations and determine how easily they can be overcome and at what cost in terms of finance, energy and time.
Ecologial criteria
We apply a set of ecological viability criteria to the land the easily determines how suitable land is for long-term well-being and efficient regenerative development.
Clear direction
We will highlight challenges and opportunities inherent in the site and give you a good indication of the viability and scale of permaculture development possible on the site.
This service involves
a basic observation of
key components of
the landscape
Soils & Geology
A basic water infrastructure plan
A list of relevant strategies and technologies towards establishing a regenerative land use model
Connecting you up
We link you to relevant resources, services, courses and networks to help you establish a sustainable ecological land use pattern on your land.
Design Report
A comprehensive, detailed report, including a basic design map, that will provide clear and practical infomration for your future permaculture path.
PERMACULTURE DESIGN FOR YOUR SITE
If you would like a clear and practical permaculture design for your property, we can assist with an easy-to-understand, map-based design accompanied by a detailed explanatory document. This document outlines the reasoning behind the design and provides practical implementation advice.
The design can be developed virtually or following a physical site visit. While a site visit is always preferable as it allows us to create a more detailed and accurate design, our virtual designs are highly effective when you are able to provide good quality data and information about your property.
Our designs offer a strong long-term foundation for the regenerative development of your land. They help you avoid costly and time-consuming mistakes while providing a clear roadmap to sustainability and your ideal lifestyle.
We focus on enhancing your property’s potential, mitigating its challenges, and making the best possible use of what you already have. The design gives you a realistic understanding of what is achievable based on your budget, resources, skills, and available time.
Every design is tailored to your unique goals, capacity, environment, and resources. We keep designs at a mainframe level — painting broad strategic strokes rather than overly detailed prescriptions. This creates a flexible framework that you can easily adapt as new ideas and experience emerge over time.
The Design involves
the the following key aspects
An assessment of the health and effectiveness of ecosystem processes on the site
A topographic orientation of the site to determine slope aspects, steepness and aspect
Capturing the external impacts on the site in the form of a Sector Map
Assessment of local and regional climate context to place your site correctly into Climate Design Strategies
A personal assessment of your quality of life needs that the design is to support and enable
A water harvesting, storage and use design based on contour based terraforming, optimising site based water sources
Correct placement and design of buildings or the retrofit of existing buildings into sustainability
Access plan involving roads, tracks and footpaths that work harmoniously with the land shape
Strategies to maintain and build soil fertility
Appropriate selection and integration of production and support components for your site
Design and placement of vegetable gardens, food forests, agroforestry systems
Strategies for the integration of small and large livestock into the design
An off-grid energy plan
Virtual Consultations.
We can consult with you via a virtual platform. In most cases it is not necessary for us to meet you in person or even visit your site. With the current virtual tools and platforms available, we can provide highly effective input into your endevour and assist with any questions or queries you may have.
To do this effectively we would require some good data from your side and as much audio visual and map material as possible. We can assist you in gathering this data if you are unsure how to go about it. No matter what your context is, we can provide the support you need to get going with or to troubleshoot your permaculture or self-reliance endevour.
Our Process
How to start the Consultation Process.
- The first step is to get hold of us via email or send a whatsapp/Telegram/Signal Message (voice messages are best as you can provide plenty of info on your context).
- Please do not phone us as we are not in cell signal and because we are farming we are mostly outdoors.
- Tell us what you are wanting and send a location for the property involved.
- We will then set up a 30 minute video call (free of charge) to get into more detail and discuss a viable way forward that suits you.
- We will then decide if a site visit is necessary or whether the entire process can be done virtually.
Avoid Type 1 Errors
A Type 1 Error is a mistake in design or decision making that has a long-term catastrophic result and seriously compromises the viability of the project and the quality of life of the residents. Our job is to help you prevent Type 1 Errors.
Every site has its challenges and opportunities, there are no perfect properties, and often people tend to see their patch of paradise through rose tinted glasses and miss issues that can make life very difficult in the long term.
There are often good reasons people sell property or farmers sub-divide and sell off portions to the the unsuspecting public.
We will pick these problems up and offer solutions if you already have the property or suggest you keep looking.

Common Type 1 Errors
These errors are diverse and surprisingly common and here are a list of the most common Type 1’s we have encountered. There are many more and each site has its challenges as well as its opportunities.
- Locating the house on top of a ridge for the view.
- No effective planning for natural disasters such as fire and flood.
- Poor house design that is inappropriate for climate context.
- Poor selection of plant species for site context and climate.
- Wasteful expenditure on over specified off grid power generation.
- Poor design of water harvesting, storage and use systems.
- Incorporation species and infrastructures that do not serve the quality of life and needs of the residents or the purpose of the property.
- Inappropriate placement of infrastructures in relation to each other.
- Failure to respond effectively to regulations.
- Getting ripped off by unscrupulous service providers who prey on people’s lack of technical knowledge.
- Failure to see hidden challenges and problems that are endemic to the property, which often result in constant resale of the property.
- Poor assessment of ecosystem health, which can result in huge costs in restoration.
- Incorrect aspect, such as West facing slopes, land that is too steep.
- Poor access that will cost a fortune to manage.
- Major challenges with alien trees.
- Very difficult water harvesting context, etc.
